Imagine a World where Every Librarian Added One More Reference to Wikipedia

Fordham librarians and instructional technologists joined participants around the world on February 1, in #1Lib1Ref, a campaign that encourages librarians to add references to Wikipedia. Good references help improve Wikipedia as a research resource. As the Wikipedia Library explains, for many readers and researchers, “Wikipedia is one of [their]first stops. … Any citation to a reliable source is a benefit to Wikipedia readers worldwide.” The #1Lib1Ref campaign is supported by Wikipedia Library, a group of dedicated volunteers, and Wikimedia Affiliates around the world.

At the event, the 12-member team really delivered! Together, Fordham librarians, Fordham Law librarians, Pratt students, NYC Wikimedians, and instructional technologists edited 110 articles, leading to  300,000 views and counting. Kyle Thomas, Walsh Library’s
E-Resorces Librarian, added an amazing 30 references. Esther Jackson, NYC Wikimedia board member, contributed 34 edits. To find articles to edit, team members used the Citation Hunt tool, which identifies Wikipedia articles in need of reliable references.
