Zoom’s New Integrative Meeting Features

Focus mode allows the host and co-hosts to see all participants but restricts participants from seeing each other. This feature extends to screen sharing: The host and co-hosts can view and switch between each participant’s shared screen, while the participants can only view their own content. The host can share a participant’s screen with others. Learn how to use focus mode.

Share slides as your virtual background on Zoom Here’s a cool feature: When you share your slides as virtual background, participants will see you (as in your live video image) superimposed on the slides. Learn how to share slides as your virtual background.

Immersive view Recreate the feel of your class or conference room by placing up to 25 video participants onto a single virtual background. Participants are automatically placed onto provided scenes, and the host can adjust the arrangements as needed. When used in a webinar, the host and panelists will be placed together onto the virtual background, while attendees view the scene. Find out how to create an immersive view.

Keep Zoom Updated to Use New Features

On the web in a browser To use Fordham Zoom on the web, go to fordham.zoom.us and log in. Or, log in to the Portal at fordham.edu, go to My Apps, and click on the Zoom icon.

Download to your computer To download Zoom, log in to fordham.zoom.us. On the dark-colored bar at the top of the page, look for Resources on the upper right. Click on it, and from the drop-down menu select Download Zoom Client. You’ll be taken to the Zoom Download Center. From there, select Zoom Client for Meetings and follow the prompts.

Keep your Zoom client download updated Beginning November 1, Zoom will require everyone to update the client to ensure it is no more than nine months behind the current version at any given time. From that point on, you will be prompted to update your software when using the platform if your version falls behind this nine-month window. To prepare for the new schedule and avoid service disruption, Zoom recommends all customers update to the latest release, version 5.7.7, or at minimum version 5.5.0, prior to November 1.

To check for updates, log in to your downloaded Zoom client, click your photo in the upper right, and then select Check for updates.
