Compare Documents Tool on Google Workspace

0

Google Docs can quickly compare documents for you. If you have two files in Google Docs, the compare documents tool will create a new document that shows you the differences between them. On this new file, the differences between the first and second Docs are shown through suggested edits. The black text shows the first Doc, and the suggested edits show how the second document differs. This tool is great for comparing essay versions or consolidating similar documents.

How to compare two files in Google Docs:

  • On the first Doc that you want to compare, select “Tools” at the top editing bar and then select “Compare documents” from the drop down menu.
  • Select the second comparison document and then click “Compare.”
  • When the comparison is ready, click “Open” and the new Doc with the suggested edits will open in a new tab.

Note: The compare documents tool does not work for Microsoft Word .docx files.
