Blackboard MailbagWelcome to the Blackboard Mailbag, where we feature a commonly asked question that has been hitting our mailbox recently: blackboard@fordham.edu. Check out our Bb Mailbag archive of previous Blackboard questions and answers or visit fordham.edu/blackboard for additional resources.

Note:  Features may change with future updates.

Q:  How do Blackboard messages and email work?

Blackboard Messages are organized and kept within Blackboard for easy access. When you compose a message within Blackboard, an email is sent to the recipients you have selected. If you have checked “Allow replies to this message,” then the recipient can click on the link in the email to be brought back into Blackboard messages to respond.

You will find Messages on the top navigation menu within your course.

base navigation < activity < gear icon

If you would like to be notified via email when you have been sent a Blackboard message, you can sign up for email notifications. Upon receiving a Blackboard message, you will automatically be sent an email containing the message and a hyperlink for you to reply to the message in Blackboard.

Edit your notification settings and sign up for email notifications:
  1. Click on the Activity Stream on the Blackboard home page
  2. Select the gear icon
  3. Customize your settings
  4. Click Save

Have feedback or suggestions on features?  Blackboard’s parent company Anthology hosts The Idea Exchange.  This is a place specifically for Blackboard to track and manage enhancement requests. It allows for things like upvoting ideas and sharing development plans and statuses. You will need to create an account to access the Idea Exchange.
