The Race to Regulate AI: Ethical Challenges in the Spaces and Places of Consent Provision 10/2/24
As Generative AI continues to reshape education, Fordham has been at the forefront, offering a wealth of resources to navigate this new landscape. From informational sessions to hands-on workshops and conferences, we’ve explored the transformative potential of AI in teaching, learning, and assessment. Throughout these discussions, one critical theme has consistently emerged: the ethical implications of AI integration in education. In response to this pressing concern, we are delighted to invite you to our inaugural presentation of the academic year, focusing on the ethical challenges of our increasingly digital society.
Wednesday, October 2, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom
With Dr. Florence M. Chee, Associate Professor of Digital Communication and Director of the Center for Digital Ethics and Policy at the School of Communication, Loyola University Chicago
This presentation will draw attention to the particular challenges facing global policy-making efforts in the race to regulate and govern Artificial Intelligence locally and globally. Through a discussion of recent work in AI literacies, ethical design, games, and data as they inform industry and policy, Dr. Chee will engage the audience in some of the multilateral efforts currently underway in regulating our most intimate contexts and spaces. In this discussion, we will go beyond binary thinking and venture into where ethics and privacy implicate data, autonomy in navigating various consent regimes, and what we can learn about respecting human rights in everyday practice.
