2. Faculty Technology Day | May 24 | Lincoln Center
Join us on Tuesday, May 24, in the 12th Floor Lounge at Lincoln Center, for the best Faculty Technology Day ever! Our theme is Teaching Strategies in a Digital Age. Faculty-led workshops, demonstrations of new services for fall–including Cisco’s video conferencing system–lively discussion, plenty of food, a cocktail hour, and some splendid door prizes, make this an event not to be missed. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Jose Antonio Bowen, author of Teaching Naked and the bold new president of Baltimore’s Goucher College. More info at fordham.edu/FTD

3.  Important New Resource for Classifying and Securing Student, Faculty, and Staff Data
Many of us at Fordham handle sensitive data associated with students and employees. Fordham’s policies and other regulations, such as FERPA and HIPAA, govern how to share and store that data. To navigate those requirements and the many acronyms associated with them, please consult the new Data Classification Grid.

By the way, Fordham University’s Data Classification Policy applies to all data produced, collected, stored and/or used by the University, its employees, student workers, consultants and agents during their relationship with the University. If you have questions about data classification at Fordham, contact IT Customer Care or send a message to IT Security: infosec@fordham.edu.

4. Top Tech Issues in Higher Ed: Information Security and Institutional Data Management
Fordham’s focus on information security and data management is part of an important movement at higher education institutions to develop a holistic, agile approach for reducing institutional exposure to information security threats and improve the management of institutional data. Read more about Fordham’s efforts on the IT News blog.

Work Begins on New Unified Communications System

Universal Printing is an integral component of Fordham University’s Enterprise Print initiative. We are now deploying Canon multifunction devices that print, scan, copy and fax. This initiative supports the University’s goals to be fiscally and environmentally responsible by reducing printing costs, waste, and power consumption.

Print drivers will be automatically installed on all University Windows computers that do not currently have the driver installed. You do not need to take any action, and if you already use universal printing, you will see no change. If you do not have universal printing, this installation will not impact your current printing process. It will, however, prepare you to use the Canon multifunction device in the future. Once your department is included in the program, you can print to any Canon device on any campus by selecting “FordhamSecurePrint” from your print dialog. Learn more about universal printing.

Schedule Your Department’s Business Continuity Plans and Team Table Exercises It’s that time of year to schedule team tabletop exercises (TTE) and to review, update or create departmental business continuity plans (BCP).

A TTE is intended to give your department or office an opportunity to review its current BCP and determine what changes, updates and/or additions need to be made to the BCP. The emphasis is not on finding fault with a plan but on the exercise and making your BCP better.

To maximize the benefit of the TTE and to most effectively update your BCP, we need a good cross section of staff from your entire department. This approach helps secure a strong response to any future emergencies or disasters.

TTE and BCP reviews will be conducted during the weeks of April 18-22, May 23-27 and June 20-24, 2016. For questions and to schedule a review, please reach out to Calvin Graham, IT Risk Analyst, at 718-817-0703 or via email at cgraham14@fordham.edu.

Faculty Software Requests for Fall
Submit your request for the software you’d like installed in the computer labs or smart classrooms for the fall 2016 semester to IT Customer Care at 718-817-3999 or by using their online request service, via the Tech Help tab (search for “software,” “smart classroom,” or “computer lab”).

Requests may be made for new applications, upgrades, special set ups, reconfigurations and/or additions to existing software. Proof of legal purchase and adequate licenses, or copies of the software, are required. An ITAC representative will contact you to work on the request.

Reminder: Do Not Upgrade Your PC to Windows 10 Fordham IT does not recommend that you upgrade your PC’s operating system to Windows 10. This application may cause problems when you attempt to sign into My.Fordham and other applications requiring your AccessIT ID and password. If you’ve already upgraded or have questions, please contact IT Customer Care.
