Welcome to the EdTech Essentials blog, your weekly source for insights, trends, and practical applications of educational technology aimed at enhancing teaching, learning, and research in our academic community.

Note: Features may change with future updates.

If you find yourself struggling with your computer – perhaps a software or app problem, or any tech-related issue we strongly recommend pulling out your phone and taking a photo (or photos) of what you’re facing. Screenshots from your phone or your mouse/keyboard significantly improve our ability to understand your situation, and then solve your problem.

Simply attach any screenshots to your email to HelpIT@fordham.edu or submit them through the Tech Help page on the Fordham website (under My Pages).

on the fordham website, sign in and click on IT help from the my pages menu

How to Take a Screenshot

    • Windows: Press PrtScn to capture the full screen or Win + Shift + S to select a portion.
    • Mac: Press Cmd + Shift + 4 to capture a selected area or Cmd + Shift + 3 for the full screen.
    • Mobile: On an iPhone, press the power and volume up buttons simultaneously.  On an Android phone, press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously.

Remember, we don’t care if your screenshot is blurry, slightly tilted, or has strange screen glare—what matters is that we can see the problem.

Additionally, if your issue involves a process that isn’t working, take it a step further—record a short video of what you’re doing. Again, we don’t care if it’s shaky, has background noise, or isn’t Hollywood-worthy. Our goal is to see what’s happening so we can help you faster.

Pro Tip: When recording a video, narrate what you’re doing, what you expect to happen, and what’s going wrong. Hearing your explanation can make troubleshooting much easier and get you back on track faster.

A quick screenshot or video is not only worth a thousand emails, it’ll get you back to teaching, research, and learning as soon as possible.
