About the talk

Fordham Digital Humanities, the Department of Art History and the Medieval Studies Program are pleased to present Dr. Diego Jimenez Badillo, who will give the talk “Large-Scale Computational Analysis of Historical Sources.”

Dr. Jiménez, from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia, Mexico, is creating a spatial and textual database of the Relaciones Geograficas (geographical reports), the most important collection of primary sources from the 16th century Americas. The project thus models how computation can be used for the “big” (and often unwieldy) data scraped from historical texts. He will discuss the scope of the project, its aims, and the computational methods used to achieve them.

All are welcome.
