Need some cash to get a project started?

The Fordham Graduate Student Digital Humanities Group is launching a new initiative to help defray the costs of developing digital projects. Small grants ($100-200) will be awarded to graduate students to support the planning stages of digital projects that promise to benefit research and/or pedagogy in the arts and sciences. The program will support both new projects in early stages of development and efforts to reinvigorate existing or dormant projects in innovative ways.

300-500-Word proposals, due Friday, April 22, should clearly articulate how you plan to use these funds, outline a specific budget justification, and explain how these plans fit into your broader work. Successful candidates will demonstrate potential for creating new digital projects, or enhancing or revitalizing existing digital projects. Proposals should show significant promise to contribute substantively to scholarship, teaching, or public knowledge of the humanities and sciences. Fordham Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants may be used to:

•    support participation in a conference or workshop that is specifically related to digital projects or tools;
•    fund travel to an archive that will be incorporated into a digital project;
•    offset enrollment in a digital skills course;
•    purchase software (not already available through Fordham IT) OR hardware necessary for the completion of a digital project;

Proposals should be sent by email attachment to fordhamgsdh@gmail.com, and will be reviewed by a committee of interdisciplinary digital experts. Awardees will be expected to participate in a ‘Flash Session’ in Fall 2016 to present the outcomes of their start-up grants, whether in the form of completed or ongoing projects, and may be asked to write a short blog for the Fordham Graduate Student DH Group website describing how the funding aided their digital work and scholarship as a whole.
