Welcome to the AI Ready Blog, where we explore the evolving world of Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI in education, fostering dialogue, experimentation, and research to enhance teaching, learning, and collaboration across disciplines.
Note: Features may change with future updates.
Blackboard’s AI Conversation tool offers intriguing possibilities for classroom engagement. AI Conversation primarily supports two instructional approaches: Socratic questioning and role-playing scenarios.
Socratic questioning allows educators to design dialogues using questions that encourage students to examine complex topics from multiple perspectives. Role-playing scenarios simulate professional interactions, helping students practice communication and decision-making skills in controlled environments.
Students can develop their critical thinking skills through more personalized learning experiences. By creating structured conversational scenarios, instructors can guide students through nuanced intellectual explorations that go beyond traditional lecture formats.
Instructors must thoughtfully design the AI’s persona, ensuring its communication style supports learning objectives. Previewing interactions is crucial to verify the AI generates appropriate, constructive responses.
A key feature is the reflection component, which encourages students to analyze the interaction critically. This meta-cognitive exercise helps students understand both the content and the technology’s capabilities and limitations.
Post-interaction, instructors can review transcripts and student reflections, using these insights to assess learning progress and refine future conversational exercises.
While AI cannot replace human instruction, it can serve as a valuable supplementary tool for creating dynamic, interactive learning experiences.
