This month, the Office of Information Technology celebrates Sergio Boniche, Senior Analyst for Finance Technology.

Sergio works in the DevOps Application Services department and has been with Fordham for seven years.  Throughout his time at Fordham, he has worked on many interesting projects and developed both professionally and personally. To honor Sergio’s contributions, we are sharing a little about his story.

How long have you been employed at Fordham, and what roles have you held?

In April, I started my seventh year at Fordham. I’ve held two roles: Project Manager and my current role as Senior Analyst for Finance Technology.

What’s the day-to-day of your role like?

In supporting 7 Finance departments, my day varies from processing feeds, ticket management, both internal and vendors, issue management, troubleshooting, and training. When time allows, I work on process mapping and documentation, process improvement, and various projects. Every so often, I’m involved with upgrade testing, application configuration, representing IT at meetings, representing Finance at meetings and putting out fires.

What is your proudest accomplishment in IT and/or life in general?

I find joy in helping people. In my role, I am first-level support, or sometimes I find myself being the person someone turns to as the last resort because they couldn’t find help elsewhere or didn’t know who to contact. I also help employees at all levels, including those who recently joined the University.

What passion projects/hobbies/activities are you involved in when you are not working?

I like to keep up with the latest technology news. I’m currently working on improving my data analytics skills. Deep down I still haven’t given up on my dream of starting my own company, which will be focused on employing veterans. So, I like to keep tabs on what’s happening in that space.

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

Working in the positions I’ve held at Fordham has really helped me improve and hone my interpersonal skills. I enjoy working with people across the University.

What is the most unique part about working at Fordham?

When I compare working at Fordham to working in a corporate environment, the one thing that stands out is the congenial environment to get to work in.

What is something fun or interesting that not many people know about you?

I was in the same homeroom as Marisa Tomei in high school. In the yearbook, her goal was to be an actress—mine computer programmer.

This interview was conducted as part of the Office of Information Technology’s SpotlITe series, in which we highlight staff members who have meaningfully contributed to IT, Fordham, and beyond.
